Jacob’s Creek: connecting sustainability and stories in the Barossa

We have worked on a diverse range of storytelling and sustainability projects with Jacob's Creek, one of Australia's most iconic wine brands in the heart of the Barossa Valley wine region.

We have welcomed the opportunity to work with Jacob's Creek to bring some of the story of their work on improving the environment and taking a more sustainable approach to doing business.

Our work covered special events, such as scoping and assisting strategy for the organisation's annual corporate social responsibility event and an event commemorating International Rivers Day.

We created a bi-lingual interpretive trail and signage that connected ecosystem restoration, cultural heritage, geology with winemaking. Through this we have shared the story of the excellent work Jacob's Creek have been doing to restore and improve Jacob's Creek for the local flora and fauna (and of course anyone who comes to enjoy the creek itself).

After assisting in the development of a grant proposal, we were fortunate to be able to establish recycling stations along the winemaker's own stretch of the Barossa Bike Trail, writing and producing checklists for cyclists (including some in Mandarin for many of the international tourists). As well as improving recycling rates and reducing littering, this project promises to extend along the trail and set news standards for sustainability in cycling infrastructure.

'Bringing recycling to the Barossa Bike Trail built on some of the excellent work Ecocreative have done with us. The recycling project needed to deal with complexity, yet still promote and enable more sustainable behaviours at Jacob's Creek. It's a big success and I am proud of what we have achieved together.'
Mandy Gerhardy, Health, Safety and Environment Manager

Perhaps the biggest project of them all taking the opportunity of an international rebranding process to audit, retrofit (and improve) signage and wayfinding across the many properties in the area; a mammoth task requiring great adaptability, project management and manic attention to detail. As diverse as these projects have been, we feel that our blend of sustainability-focused creative consulting has enhanced people's experience at the Jacob's Creek Visitor Centre, one of the Barossa's must-visit destinations. We hope you can pay them a visit soon (and if you do, be sure to recycle any wine bottles you might share on the day!).
