Organic farming and climate change: a user manual

Australia's organic farmers now have a new resource to guide them into a future of an uncertain climate.

The Organic Federation of Australia commissioned Ecocreative to edit, design and produce a manual that helps organic farmers adapt to climate change. A storytelling approach balanced with a strong publication design and illustrated infographics has resulted in a manual that helps organic farmers make the most of a challenging climate.

The 100-odd page manual discusses how organic methods can sequester carbon and maintain production even under extreme weather patterns, as well as providing business and marketing opportunities.

Project management focused on drawing together from multiple contributors and standardising content, including many photos essential in showing how people deal with organic systems on the land. Illustrated diagrams and an engaging layout help guide readers through the practical, but sometimes dense, information.

This sustainably produced manual was accompanied by touring workshops and is part of support that the organic sector has benefitted from in developing resilient farming systems into the millennium.
