Tjilbruke Trail

The Tjilbruke story centres around the Kaurna hunter, Tjilbruke, and his journey along the South Australian coastline.

The City of Holdfast Bay came to us seeking interpretive signage to give visitors and locals an insight into the stories of the first people to live in and travel through the Council area.

We developed a series of illustrations and constructed signage inspired by the shape of an Ibis and aboriginal artwork, which tell the Tjilbruke Dreaming story in segments along the walking trail. At each stop, forms and Indigenous names of native plant species found in the vicinity of the signage are described.

This presentation echoes the way the Kaurna people tied story to land, and follows a route that was walked hundreds of years ago.
